Legal Requirements for Training
The U.S. Department of Transportation requires anyone who works with
hazardous materials to be trained in regulations and procedures. That means
everyone— from shippers and receivers to freight forwarders and carriers.
Anyone loads, unloads, handles, packs, delivers, carries or even documents
or arranges logistics for dangerous goods must prove that they have
received the appropriate training to do so.

ATP’s training programs take the mystery out of hazardous materials
handling. Participants leave with the knowledge and confidence they
need to handle these special materials safely and effectively. ATP’s
training programs were designed according to United Nations standards and
comply with requirements imposed by D.o.T., ICAO, IATA, and the IMO.
Our intensive general training session is offered regularly in many
locations. This hands-on course combines lecture and discussion with
demonstrations and practical exercises, giving participants a multi-faceted
learning environment. All qualifying participants receive certification that
satisfies the requirements of documentary proof for hazardous materials
training.
| Our one-day refresher
course is perfect for those who: |
 |
 |
Need to update their training
certificate |
 |
Are trained but want or need a
different function-specific focus |
 |
Need additional familiarity with the
information. |
(Only those with current full-course certification are eligible for
retraining sessions.) |

ATP can also develop a specially customized training program that
is tailored specifically to meet your company’s needs. We incorporate actual
company documentation and products in our exercises and examples, giving
your employees the benefit of "seeing" the information applied as they would
on the job. Our customized training programs allow you to train several
employees at once, at the time and location that is most convenient for you.

Let ATP’s hazardous materials experts give you the training you need to
meet—and even exceed—DOT’s requirement. Our training sessions cover three
specific areas:
 |
General Familiarization—Find
out what products are considered hazardous, what the regulations are,
and what your responsibilities are for compliance. |
 |
Safety Issues—Participants get
a thorough review of all safety issues related to handling, packing,
transporting and documenting hazardous materials shipments, as well as a
review of appropriate emergency procedures. |
 |
Function-Specific Concentrations—Sessions
focus on the hazardous materials classifications, regulations and
procedures that most closely match participants’ products and workplace
procedures and scenarios. |
 |
Modal-Specific Concentrations—Sessions
provide detailed coverage of specifics related to individual modes of
transportation. Depending upon participants’ needs, trainers will focus
on ground, air, and sea transport regulations appropriately. |

All participants receive a set of the course materials, which become
helpful, easy-to-use desk references. Course materials include
overviews of regulatory information for ground, air and sea transport, along
with exercises and examples.
Participants also receive certificates of completion, which serve
as official proof of training. ATP retains in-house training records as
well, for back up.

While participants leave our training with a thorough understanding of
hazardous materials regulations, many need reassurance when they actually
have to put their knowledge to the test in real situations. That’s why our
training does not end when we distribute participant certificates. All of
our trainees have access to our experts for post-training support for as
long as they need it.
