Details: The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard is Part 120 of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) General Industry standards published at 29 CFR 1910.
The 40-hour program is for general site workers, such as equipment operators, general laborers, supervisors, and others who are engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities which expose, or potentially expose, workers to hazardous substances, safety, or health hazards. In addition to the classroom training, workers must also receive a minimum of three days actual field experience under the direct supervision of a trained experienced supervisor.
All training must be completed before employees are permitted to engage in hazardous waste operations.
An annual, 8-hour refresher is required.
